Some may ask what is a bike party? Over the last couple of years San Jose has a local group that has been running these so called bike parties. From there own website, www.sjbikeparty.org , San Jose Bike Party says “Watching a bike party is a lot like watching a circus.” And they are correct.

San Jose Bike Party runs a themed event once a month. Themes range from Pajama Party, Super Heros, Circus, Angelic or Demonic, Under The Sea, and many more. You will see many amazing types of bikes and costumes from riders who range from young kids to old (still kids at heart). If you have ever witnessed a bike party while walking the streets of Santa Clara County, you will feel as if you were in downtown Beijing, China as 4,000+ riders glide by on the street ringing their bike bells or yelling “Bike Party!”

The paths vary throughout Santa Clara County and the organization asks all participants to follow strict rules of the road for their own safety as well as for motorists. The ride starts (wheels on the street) EVERY third Friday at 8:00pm – with riders coming as early as 7:00pm, but most coming around 7:30pm. The ride starting point is rotated every month. Participants will end up riding as much or as little as they want. Most rides are between 20-30 miles. It might sound hard, but most of Santa Clara County is flat and most participants finish the ride. I have seen young kids do the entire ride. All route maps are posted before the ride date.
